A Treasured Love

Published: 5/5/2024

Can Agnes Clarke sell rocking chairs?
Yes! Easily and on tiptoes with her eyes closed. She can sell the quality hand-made beautiful, charming chairs which her father makes.
So, why can’t she sell one to Lord Walter Ashcroft?
Because he’s a distraction. She can’t see any reason for him to have a chair from them. The trouble is, he can’t see why he can’t have one. And he keeps turning up on the family’s wood farm asking questions and exploring the craft. Her father sees this as interesting – and she sees it as irritating.
Even worse, he’s asking to have a chair made from one of the two oak trees on the property. No one uses those trees! They are treasured by the Clarkes.
Can she relent and offer a rocking chair made from the wood to which she is so deeply attached?
This love story reminds us how precious life is, the significance of our ancestor’s actions and the power of the stories we pass down generations.
